Advantages of gangue backfilling: Gangue backfilling can reduce the surface subsidence area by more than 70%, and shorten the vegetation restoration cycle to one-third of that of traditional methods. Through backfilling mining, Tangkou Coal Mine consumes approximately 600,000 tons of gangue annually, reduces land acquisition costs by more than 30 million yuan, and avoids the destruction of 200 mu of cultivated land. Economic analysis shows that although the backfilling cost increases by 30–50 yuan per ton compared with traditional mining, the incremental investment can be recovered within 3–5 years considering comprehensive factors such as savings in land compensation and reductions in environmental protection taxes.
